Originally it was discovered in the 1920s to indicate the presence of embryo and measured through the urine that is now used for pregnancy test. It stimulates the progesterone production to prevent the thinning of the corpus luteum in the ovary which is important for pregnancy. It is believed that it is effective for losing weight because these hormones turn fats into calorie for the use of the fetus and same as well be the same if injected to those who are trying to lose weight.
The combination of low-calorie diet and a daily dose of HCG will possibly loose great amount of weight. The claim of HCG diet also include that it suppresses appetite. But scientific studies show that there is no evidence to back up this claim. Food and Drug Administration has not even approved the HCG diet strategy for losing weight. Ineffective of this regimen was proved by the American Medical Association. The weight loss effect of HCG diet may be caused by the low-calorie diet but not the HCG dosage.
